Did I Ask Too Much? Subterranean Disappointed Blues

I try to be reliable. And when other people are unreliable, it makes me grumpy. Such as when the exterminator (famous last words: preventitive, I swear!) is supposed to show up, and doesn't. After countless calls on my part to make sure that he's coming, that I'm on the co-op's list, that he has my address, etc. After making arrangements for someone else to pick up Ann from preschool (if you miss these guys when they do show up, you don't stand a chance). And the contractor who is supposed to finally look at the ledge in our apartment (see anniversary photo on 1 November) also can't make it. Sue me. I want my kids to live in an apartment that is waterbug-free and doesn't present a major falling hazard. Grrrrr . . . If you don't want to turn RaggedyMom into CrabbedyMom, by all means, JUST SHOW UP!!!

I know the feeling. Yuck for the exterminator.

Heh. We've been on the exterminator list for two months... :)

SWFM - I know you sympathize!
Ezzie - In our complex (gray buildings right behind your bus stop), there are 750 units. They contract this kind of work out to a guy who works for himslef, and he comes 2 Saturdays and one Wednesday a month. In my previous experience, he generally always keeps his appointments. Yikes, I hate this topic, everyone! :)

I know the feeling. Last May fire alarms became law in all rental homes. 6 months later we are still waiting for the guy to come an fit our alarms... but we are just tenants, we can wait and don't seem to have a say.

Jack - LOL, I make statements like that all the time. Play nice!

Baleboosteh - Wow, fire alarms haven't been required in rentals until now? We own our apartment, but I think they've been required in rentals in NYC for ages. Carbon monoxide detectors are a must as of a couple of years ago as well. Is it possible to put in a fire alarm yourself and have them reimburse you?

RM,

Sorry to hear about your woes. It seems like no matter where you live, there will always be problems with getting people to be reliable and show up on time/when they say they will. I thought it was just 'cuz I live in the middle of the cornfields in what is definitely a "college town" that I could never get the maintenance man for my apartment or any other service-person to come when they said they would. Sad to see that's not the case. Good luck to you!

LOL Jack

Don't worry, RM. Jack likes making fun of anything connected to Cleveland... he misses it. :)

MM - He's coming back when you'll be here - I want to say that I'm not responsible for any impulsive and regrettable actions by my houseguests.

Hila - Thanks for your input, you're right. By the way, your blog is terrific!

Ezzie - got it, inside jokes, turf wars, backing off :)

Hey, everyone: No music fans out there? No mention of my photo's reference . . Doesn't RaggedyAndy resemble a young Bob Dylan? :)
